About UDISE Plus
The Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE Plus/ UDISE+), initiated by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education in India, is an extremely useful Management Information System. It encompasses an extensive network, covering over 14+ lakh schools, approximately 95+ lakh teachers, and 26+ crore children. This system represents a large-scale effort to gather and manage educational data across various levels of school education in India.
How to use UDISE Plus Data for School Research?
The information provided by UDISE+ is primarily used for resource allocation purposes by the Government but we feel it can also be used to quickly research schools in India! Don’t consider all information to be super accurate as it’s still a work in progress system.
Here is how you can quickly research about the schools in your area. Thanks to this Government’s initiative!
- Step 1: Go to https://udiseplus.gov.in/
- Step 2: Click on Know Your School as shown below
- Step 3: Select the option Search by Pincode. Enter the Pin Code, followed by captcha and then click Submit.
We recommend Pin Code based search as the text of school in the “Search by Name” option might have slight variation in this system in which case you won’t find the match. So, Pin Code seems like a good option as it’s purely numbers and the mismatch situation will be limited
- Step 4: After you click on Submit, you will see a list of schools from the Pin Code entered. To know more about each school click on the Report Card 20XX – 20YY button in the rightmost column. XX and YY will keep getting updated. For examples in 2023, it will say Report Card 2021 – 2022
- Step 5: Explore the report card pdf for each school. Each report card has useful info like whats the school board i.e. State Board/ CBSE/ ICSE etc. It also lists how many classes are available i.e. is it Class 1 to 12 / Class 1 to 5 etc. You can also know if the school has internet, drinking water, playground, library and so on. So, feel free to explore topics you care about while researching schools.
Hope this will help you research better. Beyond this data, it would also be useful to visit schools’ websites or call them directly before you make any decision.
