After completing the online OCI application at ociservices.gov.in, you must submit a physical copy of the application along with supporting documents. This 2024 OCI Minor document checklist is for obtaining an OCI card for a minor which includes all scenarios that you might have while applying for a minor’s OCI card. In this post, we have assumed the child is born in the USA and both parents are Indian and married. So, the documents list is also based on this assumption. However, many sections are applicable to all minor OCI applications across different situations.
Required Documents:
- Signed OCI Application Form: Sign the form filled out online at ociservices.gov.in, including the child’s thumbprint.
- Photograph & Signature:
- Provide 2 physical photos on the application package. The photo should be identical to the digital photo in the online application.
- Add thumb print on page #3 of the online application print out [Tips for getting the thumbprint will be shared in a separate post]
- Parental Authorization Form: Notarized and original. Format here and the instructions on completing this form shared here.
- Current Valid Passport Copy: Submit a self-attested copy of the child’s passport, with at least 6 months validity. One parent should sign the information page. Instructions on signing the information page of the minor’s passport shared here.
- Birth Certificate: Self-attested copy including parents’ names, date of birth, and nationality. Only government-issued certificates are accepted. [Instructions on self -attestation will be provided in a separate post]
- Evidence of Indian Origin of Parents: Self-attested copies of both parents’ Indian passports.
- Marriage Certificate of Parents: Self-attested marriage certificate from the Marriage Registrar.
- Copies of Current Passports of Parents: Self-attested copies.
- Proof of Legal Status of Parents in the USA (If Holding NON-USA Passport):
- Copy of valid Green Card (Front and Back), OR
- Copy of valid EAD (Front and Back), OR
- Copy of valid long-term US visa, OR
- I-797A Approval Notice / I-797C Receipt Notice with recently expired visa.[We sent the i-797A Approval Notice]
- Proof of Address: Self-attested copy of one of the following:
- Utility bill (not more than 3 months old)
- Valid Lease Agreement
- Mortgage
- Income Tax Return
- Affidavit in Lieu of Originals: Notarized affidavit stating the documents are true copies of the originals. Format here, instructions to complete this document are here.
