BMI Calculator Formula
India is unique in terms of it's preference for height and weight measurement units. Typically BMI is measured in kilograms - metres or pounds - inches. But in India height is popularly recorded in feet - inches and weight in kilograms. Due to that we have to convert units to one of the metric system to get the information on our BMI ratio but not anymore. We customised the BMI calculator to the unique Indian needs.
The modified BMI calculation formula is as indicated below:
BMI Calculator formula:
weight (kg) * 2.20462 / [height (ft) * 12 + (in)]2 x 703
Conversion units used in the formula:
weight (kg) * 2.20462 = Weight (lbs)
height (ft) * 12 + (in) = Height (inch)

Risk with Higher BMI
Typically higher BMI i.e. the Overweight and Obese BMI categories might correlate with certain medical issues but we recommend to check with your doctor to confirm that. BMI is just a ratio and not the complete health assessment tool
For example those with a high BMI could be at risk of:-
- high blood cholesterol or other lipid disorders
- type 2 diabetes
- heart disease
- high blood pressure
- gallbladder disease
- sleep apnea and snoring
- osteoarthritis and joint disease
- etc
